Prof A J Nok was a professor of Biochemistry and Public Affairs Secretary of The Nigerian Academy of Sciences. Prof Nok received the Nigerian National Merit Award in 2010 after receiving Africa’s most prestigious prize in Science, The Nigeria Prize for Science in 2009 for the “Discovery of the gene responsible for the creation of the Sialidase (SD), an enzyme which causes Sleeping sickness”. Prof Nok, formerly a lecturer at the Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, has passed on.
